Today we know that bloodletting via this idea cannot benefit anyone. Quite the opposite: Patients lose fluid during bloodletting, which can be fatal if it is not compensated for. In today’s medicine, bloodletting is therefore only used for rare blood diseases in which patients produce too many blood cells or store too much iron.
But not just there. Some representatives of alternative medicine still believe that bloodletting can be used to treat diseases such as high blood pressure.
