Ed Sheeran is a musician with a very special spirit: he has been on the singles charts long enough, he says. Now Elton John should answer it.
With an unusual request, Ed Sheeran (30) wants to help his colleague Elton John (74) achieve the first number one hit in almost two decades.
The British singer asked his fans to support the new single “Cold Heart”, which Sir John released together with Dua Lipa, and at the same time to topple his own contribution “Shivers” from the chart throne. The song was last at number two in the British charts, behind “Shivers”.
“Please buy / stream / download ‘Cold Heart’ with Dua Lipa now, 15 weeks at number one was more than I ever expected, love you,” Sheeran wrote on Instagram.
“Elton John is so close to knocking me out first in the UK. It would be his first number one in almost 20 years, and I really want it to work, ”Sheeran said. He also posted a black and white photo of himself and Elton John, who last came top in 2003 with a remix of his hit “Are You Ready for Love”. A total of seven of his singles landed on top of the chart.
The music legend recently broke a record. With “Cold Heart”, the 74-year-old became the first artist to make it into the top ten of the British charts at least once a decade over a period of six decades. He overtook superstars like Cher, Cliff Richard, Michael Jackson and David Bowie, all of whom had at least one top ten hit in five decades.
