What is hidden behind the term superfood? Some foods are said to be healthier than others. But just being healthy is not enough to be traded as a superfood, it also has to be suitable as a trend. Like these five foods.

In general, superfoods are particularly nutrient-rich foods, especially fruit and vegetables. Superfoods are often high in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that are said to have health-promoting effects. For example, they are believed to slow down aging, prevent disease, solve sleep problems, and make you healthier. Read here which foods will be part of the superfood trends in 2023 and what makes them so healthy.

What are the superfoods?

The word superfood suggests that these foods are particularly healthy. However, it is more of a buzzword for all foods that are particularly rich in certain nutrients. In recent years, foods such as acai and goji berries, amaranth, chia seeds and quinoa or turmeric have been among the superfood trends. Yes, it’s not that simple, because the foods can be health-promoting, but they don’t work miracles on their own. This includes a holistic, healthy lifestyle with sufficient exercise and a balanced diet.

Superfood trend 1: Bimi

Bimi looks like broccoli with long stems and is therefore also reminiscent of a cross between the green vegetable and asparagus. In Germany it is also known as asparagus broccoli and in English-speaking countries as broccolini. Bimi has a small flower head with an elongated stem. The superfood is said to have a mild taste and even taste a bit like asparagus. The asparagus broccoli is a cross between broccoli and kai-lan. Kai-lan is a Chinese leafy vegetable and is similar to Swiss chard. Bimi also contains the minerals, trace elements and vitamins that characterize asparagus and broccoli and is low in calories.

Superfood trend 2: hemp seeds

Hemp products seem to be everywhere these days. There are numerous foods that use the active ingredient CBD as an ingredient. So may hemp seeds as a popular superfood 2023 not missing here. The seeds are considered a rich source of nutrients as they contain a lot of protein and essential amino acids, as well as many omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. Hemp can be found in flour, spreads, biscuits, bars and also teas and juices. It is good to know that only low-THC plants may be used for food, so that the products do not have the intoxicating effect that is otherwise associated with the hemp and the CBD it contains.

Miso paste originated in Japan. From there, the popular paste has conquered the world and is now a popular ingredient in numerous countries. The paste is considered very nutritious. It mainly consists of soybeans, which provide plenty of protein. In addition, the Japanese spice contains lactic acid bacteria due to traditional production, which can have a positive effect on the stomach and intestines and thus on digestion. Superfood trend 5: regional products

What is good is what grows around the corner, because this food does not have to travel long distances to be transported, so it does not require a lot of chemicals and has a better climate balance. Regional products are therefore considered popular superfoods in 2023. Fruits such as blackberries and blueberries are at the forefront. The latter are also known as blueberries. Both berries may be small, but they contain many healthy nutrients, including plenty of fiber, carotene, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, iron, magnesium, calcium and potassium.

How healthy are superfoods?

Nutritious foods with valuable nutrients are healthy and can have a positive effect on the body and mind. But nutrition alone is not enough for a healthy lifestyle. So superfood can definitely have a positive effect on you, but you shouldn’t just rely on it, eat a balanced diet and get enough exercise.

Do Superfoods Help You Lose Weight?

Those who eat nutritious food instead of fast food are less likely to suffer from food cravings. That’s because nutritious food keeps blood sugar levels steady and hunger in check, even when there’s a long gap between meals. When it comes to losing weight, those who eat nutritious foods — including superfoods — suffer fewer ravenous hunger attacks and are full for longer. Of course, this has a positive effect on body weight.
