It’s the game of games in the USA: the Super Bowl. The Kansas City Chiefs will face the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas on February 11th. What you need to know about the NFL grand finale.
It is the largest single sporting event in the world, with more than 800 million people worldwide tuning in to their TV sets every year Super Bowl, the finale of the American football league NFL. On the night of February 11th to 12th, the Kansas City Chiefs will meet the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas. It is the Chiefs’ fourth appearance in the Super Bowl in five years, and San Francisco is hoping for its first title in 29 years.
Why is the Super Bowl taking place in Las Vegas?
The NFL determines where the season’s grand finale will take place several years in advance. Most of the time, those responsible choose a location in the south or on the west coast of the USA due to the warmer weather. For the first time, Las Vegas is hosting the Super Bowl – for two reasons: Allegiant Stadium is practically brand new and was only opened when the Oakland Raiders moved to Las Vegas in 2020. In US sports, it is common for franchises to change locations. In addition, there is the new market that the NFL is trying to develop with the Raiders’ move to the gambling metropolis. Next year the NFL will once again be heading to New Orleans for the Super Bowl. It will be the eleventh final in the birthplace of jazz – only Miami has hosted the Super Bowl as often. In 2026 (Santa Clara, near San Francisco) and 2027 (Inglewood, near Los Angeles) the NFL will go to California.
Who actually has home rights?
Since the first Super Bowl in 1967, it has been regulated which team has home advantage. In odd-numbered Super Bowls, the NFC participant has home advantage; in even-numbered Super Bowls, the AFC team has home advantage. The NFL is divided into two conferences, the American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC), in which 16 teams each play for a place in the playoffs, but also face teams from each other during the season Conference meeting. After the main round ends, the NFC and AFC play their own playoffs before the two conference winners meet in the Super Bowl. Since the 58th Super Bowl will be played in Vegas, the Chiefs have home advantage and the choice of which jersey they want to wear. In the history of championship finals, home advantage is not necessarily a lucky charm: in 32 of the 57 previous finals, the designated visiting team won.

How many spectators can fit in the stadium?
How much do the tickets cost?
If you want to spontaneously experience the Super Bowl live, you either have to be lucky and win tickets – or have the necessary change. Both Seat Geek and Ticketmaster, two of the NFL’s official ticket partners, offer resale tickets. The cheapest ticket is currently (as of January 30th, 11:09 a.m.) at $7,148 (around 6,600 euros), but this seat is correspondingly far away from the playing field. Anyone who would like a place in the lower tier in the middle of the playing field currently has to pay up to 32,000 dollars (29,500 euros). If you have the necessary change, you can also get a seat in a suite for $60,000 (55,400 euros). “CBS”, one of the largest TV channels in the USA, which also broadcasts the Super Bowl, calculated on Monday that the average price for a ticket on Seat Geek was 12,082 dollars (11,156 euros) – 36 percent higher than the price at the same period last year.
Who is performing in the halftime show?
Of course, the big TV event also includes a superstar who appears during the break and is announced early by the NFL. After Rihanna was on stage last year, R&B superstar Usher will be appearing this time. You can always look forward to surprises. Rihanna revealed her pregnancy during her performance last year, and surprise guests often come on stage as supporting acts. In recent years, 50 Cent, Bad Bunny, Beyoncé and the Red Hot Chili Peppers have taken part.
Is Taylor Swift coming to Vegas?
They have been the celebrity dream couple since last fall: US pop superstar Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, tight end of the Kansas City Chiefs. Swift has already watched a total of twelve games from the box, sat in the audience when the Chiefs won in Baltimore in the AFC Championship Game and then kissed her boyfriend publicly for the first time on the field. The finale in Las Vegas will be a logistical challenge for Swift. The 34-year-old will be on stage in Tokyo between February 7th and 10th. Your advantage may be the time difference. While the concert in Tokyo starts at 6 p.m. on February 10th, it’s 1 a.m. in Las Vegas. In other words: The pop star could take the 13-hour flight and be in the stadium on February 11th in time for the kickoff at 3:30 p.m. (12:30 a.m. German time). The tour calendar is kind to Swift, her next concert is not scheduled for February 16th in Melbourne, Australia.
Chiefs against 49ers – was there something?
The Kansas City Chiefs are the team of the 1920s in the NFL, are in the Super Bowl for the fourth time since 2020, and have only lost one game. The beginning of the Chiefs era will be remembered reluctantly in San Francisco. On February 2, 2020, both teams faced each other at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. The bookmakers considered the Chiefs favorites, but they trailed 10:20 at the end of the third quarter. Led by superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who was later named the game’s most valuable player, the Chiefs turned the game around with three touchdowns in the final quarter and won 31:20.
Is a German also playing?
No. Although the Super Bowl takes place in the home of the Raiders, Jakob Johnson’s team missed the playoffs. Amon-Ra St. Brown had the best chance, but his Detroit Lions lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC championship game.
Where will the Super Bowl be broadcast?
The Super Bowl will also be shown on free TV and streaming services in Germany. After taking over the TV rights from ProSieben, RTL will broadcast the final for the first time, with coverage starting at 11:15 p.m. In addition to the additional live stream on RTL+, DAZN also has the broadcast rights to the Super Bowl.
