Street artist Banksy’s graffiti in the eastern English town of Lowestoft is a tourist magnet. Above all, an oversized seagull on a house wall attracted people. But now both are gone.

In the east English town of Lowestoft, a wall on which a work by street artist Banksy once stood has been demolished. The community said they were unaware of the demolition. A spokesman told the BBC the piece of wall containing the artwork was removed overnight. Since the associated building is privately owned, the municipality had no authority and no information about what the owner was planning.

The city’s mayor, Alan Green, recently said he had been assured the work would not be removed. The wall was only scaffolded to stabilize it.

Artwork attracted tourists to Lowestoft

Banksy had sprayed the oversized seagull on the house wall in 2021. It seemed as if she would throw herself at the garbage container in front of it. A total of three artworks by the mysterious artist had surfaced in Lowestoft. According to the city, the seagull has been a magnet for tourists and has made Lowestoft a talking point on the national stage.

Banksy gained worldwide fame with stencil art. Initially, it was mainly found in and around the English city of Bristol. It is therefore assumed that the artist is from Great Britain. However, Banksy has kept his real name and true identity secret for years.

Most recently, Banksy received attention for artworks he left on destroyed buildings in Ukraine.

This Banksy graffiti was discovered in November 2022 near the Ukrainian capital of Kiev.
