Apple close to deal with OpenAI – ChatGPT on the iPhone

Apple is apparently close to partnering with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into its iPhones.

People familiar with the matter say loudly Bloombergthat final discussions are underway to implement ChatGPT features in iOS 18, the next operating system for iPhone.

In parallel to the negotiations with OpenAI, Apple is also in talks with Google about licensing the Gemini chatbot. These discussions have not yet resulted in an agreement but remain ongoing.

A possible deal with OpenAI would allow Apple to add the most popular chatbot to the ecosystem of its many new AI features scheduled to be announced next month. Both Apple and representatives from OpenAI and Google have not commented on the ongoing negotiations.

At the annual Worldwide Developers Conference in June, Apple plans to unveil a number of new AI features that will run through data centers equipped with the company’s own processors. Apple CEO Tim Cook emphasized the importance of AI and stated that he personally uses ChatGPT, although he admitted that there are still some issues to be addressed. He promised that new AI features will be “very thoughtfully” integrated into Apple products.
