Renewed use of the fire brigade in downtown Stuttgart

The spokesman for the Stuttgart fire brigade told the SWR that there were around 80 missions in the afternoon that had been “prioritized”. According to this, some buildings were protected from the outside with sandbags so that the pumped water does not penetrate directly back into the building. At the Klett passage at the main train station, there was a major operation due to flooding, as well as at various street underpasses. In the evening there were traffic jams on the streets. The opera house also fell victim to the rain again. The roof had already been damaged by the storm that night. Now “water has penetrated the house again because the roof is only temporarily covered,” said the managing director of the Stuttgart State Theater, Marc-Oliver Hendriks, on Tuesday evening. Game operations can resume on Saturday at the earliest.

Flooded cellar in Freiburg

Also in Freiburg Heavy rain at noon caused the fire brigade to be deployed again. Cellars that had filled up had to be pumped dry, and clogged drains from streams had to be cleaned. In Au and Merzhausen (both Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald) the local passages were flooded by water and were difficult to drive. In the county Loerrach Fallen trees blocked roads and had to be cleared. On the A81 between Villingen-Schwenningen and Tuning (both Schwarzwald-Baar district) warned the police of a flooded roadway, heavy rain and aquaplaning.

The thunderstorms also caused failures in rail traffic. On Lake Constance, according to information from Deutsche Bahn, the routes between Constancy and Radolfzell and between Salem and Friedrichshafen (Lake Constance district) temporarily blocked. Also between Bad Saulgau (Sigmaringen district) and Aulendorf (Ravensburg district) as well as in the Black Forest on the route between the Freiburg Central Station and Kirchzarten the traffic came to a standstill due to the storm. The light rail line S4 between Weinberg (Heilbronn district) and Öhringen-Cappel (Hohenlohekreis) was interrupted due to broken branches.
