Still more trips by bike, record broken in 2021

A new record concerning the use of the bicycle has just been crossed in the metropolis of Lyon. In 2021, nearly 38 million bicycle trips were recorded in the city, against 30 million the previous year. That is to say an increase of almost 27% in one year.

The cycle path on the banks of the Rhône remains the most frequented, with nearly 3.5 million passages recorded over the last twelve months.

More than 40 million in 2022?

“In 2022, we will exceed 40 million thanks to the improvements”, predicts Fabien Bagnon, vice-president in charge of roads and active mobility. In particular, the metropolis is due to inaugurate the first line of its express bicycle network in 2024-2025.

These 17 kilometers of cycle paths must link the Mas du Taureau district to Vaulx-en-Velin in Saint-Fons, passing through the Doua de Villeurbanne campus, the banks of the Rhône and the Halle Tony Garnier. The first section of this first line is due to be put into service this year, between Boulevard des Belges and Avenue Berthelot.
