Steinmeier’s confidant in Paris – Politics

The first time Stephan Steinlein took up his post as German ambassador in Paris, he didn’t even get to present his credentials at the Élysée Palace. He only stayed six weeks. The state that sent him to the French capital in July 1990 was the GDR, and that was already in the process of dissolving. On Monday the diplomat, who was born in Finsterwalde in 1961, was accredited as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in France. For Steinlein, this not only closes the circle of an extraordinarily steep civil service career, it also fulfills his lifelong dream.
