Belgian royal couple comes to Berlin and Dresden

It is her first visit to Germany. In Berlin, the Belgian royal couple also meets the Governing Mayor and the Federal President.

The Belgian one The royal couple is coming to Germany for a state visit at the beginning of December. King Philippe and Queen Mathilde have appointments in Berlin and Dresden on their three-day trip. Berlin’s Governing Mayor Kai Wegner will welcome the royal couple at the Brandenburg Gate next Tuesday (December 5th), as the Senate Chancellery announced on Monday. A reception at Bellevue Palace with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Elke Büdenbender as well as a meeting with Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz are also planned during the visit.

According to the Federal President’s Office, it is the first state visit of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde to Germany. The Federal President’s Office announced that this should honor the “diverse connections between the two countries”, for example with a view to economic cooperation.

For example, Steinmeier is scheduled to visit the East German transmission system operator 50Hertz in Berlin, which belongs to the Belgian group Elia. The stay should end on Thursday with a visit to the Frauenkirche in Dresden and a visit to a Christmas market. The royal couple has been married since 1999. The 63-year-old Philippe celebrated his tenth anniversary on the throne this year.
