State road between Lochhausen and Gröbenzell should be wider – Munich

The connecting road between Lochhausen and Gröbenzell is in need of rehabilitation. For cyclists in particular, Aubing’s local politicians criticize that driving on this route is now associated with a “considerable risk” due to the “pathetic condition” and the narrowness of the road. But the expansion is still a long time coming: According to Johannes Riedelsheimer from the Freising State Building Authority, planning can only be continued once it is clear whether there should also be a separate bus lane in addition to the renovation and expansion. The decision is pending, it is up to the city of Munich and the Munich transport company (MVG).

It has been known for years that the state road urgently needs to be renewed. The start of construction was originally scheduled for 2017, even then it was planned to widen the roadway from the current 5.50 to eight meters due to the high traffic load – the route serves as a feeder to the A 99 ring road. In the course of the road construction work, the bridge over the Erlbach should also be rebuilt. But then there were delays: there were changes to water protection regulations, the state building authority had to prove that the project would not have any adverse effects on flood protection.

In addition to the pedestrian and cycle path that already runs south of the road, a pedestrian and cycle lane was also planned on the north side. Aubing’s citizen representatives consider this northern cycle path to be “urgently necessary”. However, because it is only expanded once, the bus lane question must be clarified in advance. A sketch made by an engineering office has already shown that such a track would be “in principle technically feasible”. However, whether it would also make sense is to be determined with the help of a traffic report that is yet to be commissioned. “It is therefore not yet possible to reliably predict when the construction work will begin,” says Riedelsheimer. However, it is “intended to carry out the construction work while traffic is flowing, i.e. by means of a makeshift bypass”. The course of the bypass is the subject of further planning.
