State-owned companies – chair backs in Italy – economy

The government in Rome wants to replace the bosses and leading managers of four important Italian companies. At the top of the two energy companies Enel and Eni, the Italian postal service and the aerospace group Leonardo, there will be changes in personnel, as the government has announced. The task of the new directors is to “achieve solid and sustainable economic results in Italy’s interests,” said Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Wednesday evening. At the utility Enel, for example, Flavio Cattaneo is to become the new CEO, according to a statement from the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Cattaneo was previously, among other things, CEO of Telecom Italia. The replacement of the top posts is the result of a “careful process of evaluation” and has nothing to do with political affiliations, said Meloni. She thanked those who “have served Italy with passion in these companies so far”. The shares of the energy supplier Enel fell significantly on Thursday.
