State election 2023: Söder’s final spurt with a risk of stumbling – Bavaria

Low polls, dealing with the leaflet affair, signs of fatigue within the party: the CSU leader can by no means rest on what has already been achieved in the next three weeks until the state elections.

It has to do with the summer holidays that the CSU leadership hasn’t met for a while. There were eight weeks between the meetings in July and this Monday instead of the usual four. Not forever, but some people didn’t really recognize their party after the summer break. “It was a strangely subdued atmosphere,” says one participant. He says that CSU leader Markus Söder promoted solidarity and commitment in the election campaign. So, a feeling of optimism? “Perseverance slogans,” says one of the party executive.
