Starknet Reveals Major ‘Impacts’ of Ethereum’s Dencun Hard Fork

Starknet revealed the impact of lower costs on rollups after Ethereum’s latest hard fork Dencun took effect on March 13.

Starknet has announced the launch of an additional fee savings initiative on the protocol. This coincides with the Dencun upgrade being considered the most significant upgrade to Ethereum’s protocol since the transition. Proof-of-stake In October 2022

Dencun will include its EIP-4844 offering, which will change the way Ethereum Rollups store data on the Mainnet, where multiple layer-2 rollups will collect and process off-chain transactions. and send summary proofs of these transactions to the Ethereum blockchain.

EIP-4844 creates a new way for Rollups to add cheaper data to blocks by using blob space instead of using call data to store cryptographic proofs of off-chain bundled transactions. Networks were very expensive in the past. This is because all Ethereum nodes must process data residing on the network indefinitely.

Proto-danksharding Named after the researchers who proposed it, EIP-4844 would allow Rollups to send and attach data blobs to blocks. The data cannot be accessed by the Ethereum Virtual Machine and is automatically deleted after a specified period of 18 days.

Starknet expects fees to drop immediately.

Ecosystem developers predict that There may be a delay in implementing the fee reduction in the coming weeks as regulatory rollups and upgrade procedures for contract changes occur. It moves from pointing to call data to pointing to blob space.

Starknet has announced a series of hard fork upgrades specifically to match Dencun Starknet version 0.13.1, moving it from “expensive” call data for sending data to Ethereum to the more cost-effective “blobs” transaction type. This significantly reduces fees.

Ilia Volokh, StarkWare product manager and blockchain researcher, said that Starknet’s Shared Prover (SHARP), which transmits Starknet’s state, will transition to Blob Space, whichtogether withUpdated information about all contract storage and additional information about contract deployment.

Volokh expects to see accurate statistics reflecting the fee reduction within an hour of Dencun’s implementation in the meantime. Users will receive all the benefits immediately.
