Stardew Valley: Old indie game breaks player record with update

The now eight-year-old indie game “Stardew Valley” is attracting even more players than before after the update to version 1.6. With almost 150,000 simultaneous players on Steam, the mix of retro role-playing game and farm simulator was able to significantly beat its own record of almost 95,000 simultaneous players from 2021. Stardew Valley is currently the 10th most played game in the past 24 hours, just behind the long-running GTA V.

Update 1.6 brings one Huge amount of new content, mechanics and bug fixes. The game, developed single-handedly by ConcernedApe alias Eric Barone, now allows more companions, be it in the form of pets, of which you can now breed more than one. If the desert is too dry for you, you should get your money’s worth in the two new fishing events or you can try your luck as a farmer on the new map “Meadowlands Farm”.

With the “Desert Festival” there is a new event that takes players to a desert by bus. There, “Callico eggs” can be won through various challenges and attractions, which in turn can be exchanged for various virtual things at the festival. If you would rather continue working at your existing level instead of on a new farm, the new “Mastery” system gives you the opportunity to continue to expand your skills even after reaching the maximum level.

Furthermore, in multiplayer mode you can now invite eight friends to the farm instead of just four. A whole range of new items, dialogues, achievements, quests, pets, bug fixes and many other small improvements round off the update.
