Standing Vaccination Committee: Corona vaccination recommended for small children with previous illnesses

Status: 17.11.2022 3:00 p.m

The Standing Vaccination Committee has recommended the corona vaccination for small children with previous illnesses. This applies to children aged six months to four years who have an increased risk of a severe course of Covid 19 due to “underlying diseases”.

The Standing Vaccination Commission (STIKO) now also recommends vaccination against Covid-19 for children aged six months to four years – but not generally, but only in the case of relevant previous illnesses. The recommendation applies to children who have an increased risk of a severe course of Covid 19 due to “underlying diseases”.

BioNTech/Pfizer’s Comirnaty children’s vaccine should preferably be used for vaccination – alternatively, Moderna’s Spikevax children’s vaccine can be used. However, this is currently not available in Germany in the dosage prescribed for small children, it said in a statement. A list of pre-existing conditions relevant to children can be found in the STIKO recommendation.
