The Police arrested five suspects in northern Germany on Tuesday who are said to have murdered a 44-year-old together in Stade, Lower Saxony, in January. The investigators announced this.

Those arrested were five men between the ages of 25 and 35.

Fatal attack at Stade train station

After “intensive investigations,” the police searched a total of seven apartments in Stade and Mölln, Schleswig-Holstein. The federal police and special forces were also involved in the operation because the men were suspected of having firearms. A sixth suspect is on the run.

In January, the accused allegedly beat up their victim at the train station in Stade, injuring him so badly that he died in hospital. According to police findings, the background for the crime was revenge for a violent argument in November.

According to the DPA news agency, the suspected perpetrators are in custody. The homicide squad continues to investigate.
