She is the daughter of sports presenter Jörg Wontorra. From the 2nd Bundesliga to the German national team, she moderated everything. Although she never wanted to be like her parents.

On February 10, like Horst Lichter, Henry Maske and other celebrities before her, she had the honor of being named a volunteer godmother by the city of Cologne.

As the face of the “KölnEngagiert” campaign, Laura Wontorra is to honor people who have made a difference to society. Today she turns 33 years old.

Via internships to the main program

Although she never really wanted to be like her parents – her father Jörg Wontorra is a sports presenter and has been in various productions for many years – she, who was born in Bremen in 1989, studied PR and communication in Cologne. Before that, after graduating from high school in 2008 at the Olympic Games in Beijing, she had her first major contact with sports journalism during an internship at the German House. During her traineeship at Sky Germany, she learned the work of moderation, became a reporter and was active as a field reporter at Bundesliga soccer games.

Years of engagement at Sport 1 and RTL increased her level of awareness. She was used on the sidelines across leagues and competitions, collected votes from players, coaches and officials and became a face of the German sports landscape. From 2017 she accompanied games of the German national team on RTL.

She has been on the DAZN streaming service since the 2021/2022 Bundesliga season and moderates Bundesliga games. But she is also known outside of football. Together with commentator Frank Buschmann and Jan Köppen, she moderates the hit show “Ninja Warrior Germany” on RTL.

Privately happy and committed

Like the rest of her family, Laura Wontorra is a fan of SV Werder Bremen. She lives in Cologne, where she met soccer professional Simon Zoller, who currently plays for VfL Bochum. The two have been married since 2016.

In the past she was socially involved in the RTL donation marathon. She also shows commitment to her father’s “Hansestiftung”. The foundation supports social projects in the field of integration and sports for children from socially disadvantaged families.
