Sports clubs will have to commit against sexual violence, otherwise no subsidies

“From 2024, sports clubs will have to train in the fight against gender-based and sexual violence to benefit from a subsidy”. Otherwise, they will simply have to do without. In interview granted this Monday at The TeamGrégory Doucet, the mayor of Lyon, announces that the city will be the first to set up this system.

Each year, the municipality distributes three million euros in grants to some 500 registered clubs. But it is “neither a punishment nor a condition”, one specifies in the entourage of the elected official. The objective is to “allow the transmission of protective values”, “to put an end to gender-based and sexual violence in sport”, specifies Grégory Doucet.

“We have a say in how amateur sport unfolds in our municipality,” he adds. The issue of gender-based and sexual violence in sport has become a hot topic, both unfortunately and fortunately, because finally these cases are coming out. »

“Today, we start from zero”

Training cycles, intended for the leaders, employees and volunteers of the clubs, have already been set up in partnership with associations such as Colosse aux pieds d’argile. While some say they are “happy to be accompanied”, few clubs have so far really taken action, with the exception of OL, Duchère or AS Monchat.

“Today, we are starting from zero, notes Grégory Doucet. We are counting on the fact that Lyon is the first big city to do so to create a ripple effect. If the movement becomes massive, it will have a very concrete effect on the functioning of all the clubs. »

The elected also calls on the sports federations and the State to follow the example. “All levels must be in motion,” he argues. And to conclude: “We need a massive commitment in this area, because it is a scourge which directly impacts individuals and which contradicts the values of sport, which must remain a source of fulfillment and emancipation. »
