The turn of the odometer was done quickly. The fraudsters corrected the mileage of used cars for 150 to 200 euros. Then the criminal police discovered the men, including the head of a chip-tuning company in Augsburg. The investigators uncovered speedometer fraud in 160 cases, sometimes by 100,000 kilometers or more per vehicle. The case is just one of many. The ADAC estimates that the odometer is tampered with every third used vehicle, as the digital display in the basket instrument is called today.
