On Friday morning the police started the annual speed camera marathon. There are up to 1,500 measuring points in the Free State, as the Ministry of the Interior announced. Around 2,000 civil servants and municipal employees are on duty there.

Drivers in other federal states also have to pay attention to lightning systems on the side of the road. Increased controls are also taking place in Brandenburg, Thuringia, Saxony-Anhalt, Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse, Hamburg and Baden-Württemberg.

Last year, 8,690 speeding offenders were caught in the Free State. With the speed camera marathon, the Bavarian police are taking part in a Europe-wide and nationwide campaign against speeding. According to the information, excessive speed is still the number one cause of accidents.
