Species protection in the Alps: Bavaria’s bearded vultures are thriving – Bavaria

Bearded vultures are among the most powerful birds of prey. But even among them there are really strong and comparatively narrow, delicate ones. Nepomuk is one of the latter. The bearded vulture male, which has been released into the wild in the Berchtesgaden National Park for two weeks, weighs four and a half kilos. That’s not really much for a young bearded vulture. The female bearded vulture Sisi, who was placed in the rock niche under the Knittelhorn with Nepomuk, weighs five and a half kilos. Sisi also has a good ten centimeters more wingspan than Nepomuk.
