“A demo that is no longer based on the Basic Law,” said the Economics Minister in “Markus Lanz”. CSU man Alexander Dobrindt is also calling for strict consequences – with a view to Interior Minister Faeser.

NAfter the demonstration organized by Islamists with over 1,000 participants in Hamburg, politicians are demanding consequences. Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) sharply criticized the rally. “This is a demonstration that is no longer based on the Basic Law,” said Habeck on Tuesday evening ZDF program “Markus Lanz”. In his opinion, this demonstration was nothing other than questioning the principles of this republic.

The caliphate is not just a term, it means IS, the Islamic State, a “religious terrorist state” where the “rights of our republic are trampled on,” said Habeck. “They say we no longer want a liberal constitutional state, we want a religious terrorist state.” He is of the opinion that the association that registered and organized the demo should have its association rights revoked.

With a view to possible steps and the liberal constitutional state, Habeck pointed out that the hurdles for banning parties, associations and expressions of opinion are very high. “The Republic gives its enemies a lot of freedom.” That is why processes cannot be completed with the snap of the fingers. “That doesn’t mean that this can be tolerated now.” The state is not defenseless. “We should look closely at where we can be more vigilant. And that will have consequences.”

CSU regional group leader Alexander Dobrindt has harsh consequences for the initiators. “Anyone who wants to introduce Sharia law in Germany and proclaim a caliphate is an enemy of our democracy. “The state must deal with it with consistency and severity,” he told “Bild”. In the future, anyone who publicly calls for the abolition of the free democratic basic order and, for example, wants a so-called theocracy should be liable to prosecution. A minimum prison sentence of six months should be aimed for.

According to information from the Hamburg Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the person who registered for the rally on Saturday was close to the Muslim Interaktiv group. This is classified as a confirmed extremist effort. Speakers at the rally explicitly stated that a caliphate was the goal for Islamic states.

The caliphate as a form of rule dates from the time after the death of the Prophet of Islam, Mohammed, in 632 AD and names a system based on Islamic law (Sharia). As Muhammad’s deputy, the caliph was both a religious and secular ruler.

Dobrindt demanded that Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) now implement measures as quickly as possible to stop Islamist propaganda in Germany. The rule in Germany is the rule of law instead of the state of God. In addition, the nationality law should be supplemented. According to this, someone should lose their citizenship if they publicly call for the abolition of the free democratic basic order, said Dobrindt.

In addition, such Islamists should lose their right to benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act. After the demonstration, Faeser called for “tough intervention” by the state in such events.
