Children and adolescents from the age of 12 can get vaccinated against corona today at a special vaccination campaign run by the state. A total of 23 vaccination centers in Lower Saxony take part.
Young people are vaccinated today in Cuxhaven, Wittmund, Braunschweig, Goslar and Helmstedt, among others. The country has made 27,000 doses of Biontech’s vaccine available for this purpose. It is the only vaccine that has so far been approved for children and adolescents in Germany. The prerequisite is that the parents agree and are present at the vaccination. With the campaign, the state government wants to give minors the chance to be vaccinated before the holidays that start next Thursday. The date for the second vaccination would then be at the end of the summer vacation.
Great demand – vaccination campaign for young people continues
Young people are also vaccinated at the Hanover vaccination center.
However, there is no general recommendation from the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) for people aged 12 to 17, only for those with a particular risk. Due to the great demand, Lower Saxony wants to continue the vaccination campaign in the coming weeks. Also Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) spoke out in favor of vaccinating 12 to 17 year olds. “I don’t like to imagine a situation where the elderly are vaccinated and the younger ones are not,” said Weil in a summer interview with the NDR in Lower Saxony. Vaccination appointments are quickly booked out

The vaccination centers could continue to reserve part of their vaccination doses for the vaccination of children and adolescents and offer specific appointments.
