SPD probes in Berlin: That doesn’t bode well for the capital – opinion

The Social Democrats in the capital are afraid of their role as an opposition party. That’s why Franziska Giffey wants to give up her office, but the party should remain in government. That doesn’t bode well for Berlin.

The leadership of the Berlin SPD has made its decision. If the SPD leaders Franziska Giffey and Raed Saleh have their way, the capital will soon be governed by the CDU and SPD. Just like last time in the five years after 2011, only with the opposite sign. This corresponds to the will of voters in the city: Apart from their party preferences, most Berliners want a grand coalition. It is not the alliance of their hearts, but of the slightest annoyance. It appears as the safe bet in precarious times. That’s how you see it in the SPD.
