In the end, this beginning will no longer matter. The women and men that Olaf Scholz presented to the social democratic squad in the cabinet on Monday will prove their worth and fail pretty much regardless of the special way in which they now get into office. For the future Chancellor, however, the presentation in the Willy Brandt House was important as a show of power. He succeeded: It was obvious that nobody had his list on the piece of paper. There have not only been surprises such as the Defense Department for the previous Justice Minister Christine Lambrecht, but also recognizable surprises among the elected such as Karl Lauterbach, who recently hardly believed in his appointment as Minister of Health.
