Spanish Super Cup: Real Madrid beat Valencia on penalties | Sports

That was hard work!

Real Madrid have reached the final of the Spanish Super Cup but have struggled far more than expected with FC Valencia.

Los Blancos prevailed 5-4 on penalties in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Real were already struggling with Valencia, who are eleventh in the Spanish league, before the break. Nevertheless, the royals took the lead. After a foul on Karim Benzema, Real received a penalty, which the Frenchman converted himself to make it 1-0 (39′).

However, Valencia were rewarded immediately after the break, leveling just 20 seconds after the restart through Samuel Lino.

Only shortly before the end of regular time did the royals turn up the heat again, but were then unable to take their chances.

Real put on the pressure in extra time and wanted to avoid a penalty shoot-out – but missed their chances.
