Florian Philippot indeed announced Wednesday evening his desire to stand for the presidential election. The former number 2 of the Front National, which has since become the National Assembly, advocates in particular the exit of France from the European Union.
“I think our project must be present in the presidential election. I will therefore be a candidate and will propose something extremely clear: the reestablishment of all our freedoms ”, declared to the Figaro the one who equates to a “tyranny” the latest health measures announced by President Emmanuel Macron. Florian Philippot, 39, left the FN in the fall of 2017. He has since founded the Les Patriotes party. His list obtained 6.95% of the vote in the regional elections in June in the Grand-Est region.
For Philippot, the candidacy of Eric Zemmour “would be legitimate”
He wishes to promote with his candidacy the departure of France from “all the supranational bodies which do us so much harm: ECHR, NATO, European Union, Schengen …” And to underline: “The will to leave France out of the European Union , the “Frexit”, is fundamental for me. I left the National Rally when it decided to no longer lead this fight and turn the page on sovereignty ”.
Asked about the multiplication of official or anticipated candidacies in his camp, Florian Philippot explains that “if Marine Le Pen is not in the second round, she will only be able to blame herself and her total surrender to the social and sovereignty issues ”. “As for Eric Zemmour”, he continues, “he has panache, his candidacy would be legitimate and we will see if he will be a candidate”.
