South Korea: How young women unfortunately fall short of the national ideal of beauty – Panorama

The illustrator Go Ye-sung from Suwon in South Korea has not forgotten the ex-boyfriend who only loved her slim. During her relationship with him, she developed a hormone problem and therefore couldn’t maintain her figure. The boyfriend didn’t like that and he let her feel it. “He ate alone in the restaurant and didn’t let me eat,” says Go Ye-sung. “When I tried to choose something to eat, he would say: ‘You want to eat that too?'” Today, Go Ye-sung, 30, author of a successful anti-racism comic, knows that her story is typical of South Korea: “Many Women have lost a lot of self-esteem through such experiences. They starve even though they are already thin enough.”
