The software giant is once again contributing a cash injection to the developers of the chatbot ChatGPT. The software is designed to generate text that looks like it was written by humans.

The software giant Microsoft is expanding its involvement with OpenAI, the developer of the chatbot ChatGPT. The Windows group announced a new multi-year “multi-billion dollar” investment on Monday, without naming an exact amount. The financial service Bloomberg reported, citing an inside source, that it was about ten billion dollars. That would be in line with earlier information from the news website Semafor.

Microsoft was an early OpenAI investor, contributing a $1 billion cash injection back in 2019. After that, the company is said to have injected another two billion dollars. Last week Microsoft announced that it would soon be making ChatGPT available to customers of its own cloud service. The software generates texts that look like they were written by humans, and has recently caused a stir – but also concerns.

ChatGPT has been trained on massive amounts of information, allowing it to imitate text written by humans. One expectation is that the software could take over the writing of standard texts and thus save time. Concern triggers the fact that, for example, homework, essays and texts with any amount of false information can be generated in a matter of seconds. Critics also point out that ChatGPT could spread prejudice and errors resulting from the database.
