King Felipe of Spain expressed optimism about the health of his mother, who is currently in hospital.

King Felipe of Spain (56) has spoken out for the first time since his mother, Sofía of Spain (85), was hospitalized. On Wednesday, the Spanish king shared the latest information as he left Madrid’s Ruber International Hospital, where his mother was admitted on April 9 for a urinary tract infection.

King Felipe: “She is doing very well”

“She is doing very well, she is happy and wants to be released and return as soon as possible,” King Felipe told the media from his car, like the Spanish newspaper “Hola!” reported.

According to “ABC Spain” The monarch had already spent time with his mother in the hospital when she arrived the day before. Citing palace reports, it said Sofía’s condition was “very stable and positive” and she was “under observation,” it said.

Sofía was at a funeral before she was admitted

As “People” magazine reportsthe former Queen of Spain (86) was in Madrid the day before she was hospitalized to attend the mass in honor of Fernando Gomez-Acebo at the Iglesia del Sacramento, the cathedral church of the Armed Forces of Madrid.

Sofía paid her last respects to her husband’s late nephew, the former King Juan Carlos, at the funeral service, which was also attended by her son King Felipe and his wife Queen Letizia (51).

It is not known whether Sofía’s husband Juan Carlos I, who abdicated as king in 2014 after numerous scandals, also visited her in the hospital. He has been living in exile in Abu Dhabi since the summer of 2020 and has only returned to Spain twice since then – for his nephew’s funeral, as pictures show, and for a sailing regatta in 2023. Meanwhile, Sofía from Spain continues to live in Spain’s capital Madrid.
