The long-time Prime Minister of the CSU sits in the official gallery of the Bavarian state parliament on Tuesday morning and listens to the speech of his party friend, pupil and successor Markus Söder. Söder has just been re-elected as Prime Minister, he accepted the election “with great humility, but honestly also with great joy” and took the oath to the constitution. It is “the honor of my life,” says Söder, “to stand in the tradition of very great prime ministers,” “whose scale and greatness I personally will never reach.”
