Former Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) will receive the Bavarian Order of Merit next Wednesday. Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) presented Merkel with the medal in the “Antiquarium” of the Munich Residence, as the State Chancellery announced on Friday. The Bavarian Order of Merit is awarded “as a sign of honoring and grateful recognition for outstanding services to the Free State of Bavaria and the Bavarian people”. A special feature of the Bavarian Order of Merit is that the number of living bearers of the order is limited to 2000.
