Sociologist Jens Beckert: “We have to prepare for an earth that is 2.5 degrees warmer” – knowledge

The planet’s temperatures are rising, and yet people aren’t slowing down. Why is this the case and how should you deal with it? A conversation with the sociologist Jens Beckert.

For a long time, climate change was treated as a purely scientific topic. But the more it becomes apparent how difficult it is for societies to respond to these changes, the more the topic comes into the focus of political and social scientists. The sociologist Jens Beckert is director at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne. His book “Sold Future. Why the fight against climate change threatens to fail” (Suhrkamp) has been nominated for the non-fiction prize at the Leipzig Book Fair.
