Niederkaltenkirchen gets a liver cheese roll in XXL – Bavaria

After the Franz Eberhofer roundabout, the next crime landmark is in Frontenhausen. On Thursday, probably the largest statue of a liver loaf roll was unveiled in Postgasse near the central market square. The plaster and plastic giant, which weighs 300 kilograms and is three meters in diameter, was previously used as a prop. It was used in a Styrofoam version during the last filming of the film series about the village policeman Franz Eberhofer. Just like its predecessors, the ninth part, “Rehragout-Rendezvous,” was filmed in Frontenhausen in the Dingolfing-Landau district; The market in Lower Bavaria is known as Niederkaltenkirchen among crime fiction fans.

The mayor of Frontenhausen, Franz Gassner (CSU), hopes that the new attraction will attract even more visitors to the place, which is being made “extra old” for the films and of which the locals are quite proud. “Buses and individual tourists already arrive here almost every week. The Semmel is now set to become a second hotspot,” says Gassner. In the film, the XXL snack was supposed to be Niederkaltenkirchen’s “unique selling point”.

Despite the impressiveness of the new landmark, town hall boss Gassner expects that the roundabout will remain the biggest crowd puller: “This is the most famous roundabout in all of Germany. But the Semmel is now a place that is not so busy and is therefore safer.” In addition, there is also the Simmerl butcher shop in the film, the real Stadler butcher shop, where Eberhofer supporters also go to buy real liver loaf rolls.

XXL roll was hidden for a long time

The huge roll was presented to the community in 2022 by the production company Constantin Film as a thank you. The Frontenhausen building yard built a foundation and a frame, and the structure was erected at Easter. “We had to keep the rolls hidden for almost a year,” remembers Gassner. It was only allowed to be officially unveiled after the film premiered in August 2023.

In order to protect the attraction from vandalism, Gassner wants to have it insured: “We want to avoid any mischief being done here, as happened recently at the roundabout.” At the beginning of March, unknown people felled a five-meter-high lime tree there.
