Snow, ice, strong winds… Seventeen departments placed on orange vigilance by Météo-France

After yesterday’s day marked by strong winds, precipitation and snow, the bad weather continues on Tuesday. Météo-France has placed seventeen departments on orange alert for strong winds, rain-flooding, snow-icing and vague flooding for southern Corsica and the Var. Aube, Côte-d’Or, Haute-Marne, Yonne, Cantal, Lozère, Ain, Haute-Savoie, Savoie and Isère are concerned by vigilance for “snow- ice storms” and the Landes, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Haute-Corse and Southern Corsica are threatened by rain and flooding. Finally, Landes, Gers, Pyrénées-Atlantiques and Hautes-Pyrénées are subject to orange vigilance for high winds.

The Fien depression is circulating in the south of the country where it causes a clear strengthening of the wind, according to Météo-France. It also causes heavy rains in the southwest and intermittent snowfall in the Massif Central. A gust of 137 km / h has just been noted in Socoa (64), accumulations of rain of 30 to 40 mm have been noted since Monday evening on the Landes and the Pyrénées Atlantiques

Snowfall

Snowfall is expected from Normandy to the Paris Basin. These will give small quantities in general but could very locally reach a few centimeters. The Paris region would then be concerned only in the extreme south.

On the other hand, late this evening and next night, significant snowfall could be organized towards the Creuse and the Allier then shift towards the southeast.
