Smic, price of cigarettes, energy check… what changes on May 1, 2023

Who says new month says change. This May 1st is no exception to the rule. Between revaluation of the minimum wage, increase in the price of cigarettes and declaration of income, Le Parisien gives you the list here.

Revaluation of the minimum wage

The minimum wage increased by 2.2% on May 1, to reach 1,383.08 euros net. This represents a monthly gain of 30 euros for employees, indicates a decree published on April 26 in the Official Journal. On January 1, the minimum wage had already been revalued by 1.81%. On May 1, the net hourly minimum wage reached 9.11 euros.

Social benefits on the rise

Acted on April 1, the 1.6% increase in social benefits will be visible on bank accounts from this month. The amount of the RSA increases by 1.6%, rising to 607.75 euros for a single person. The activity bonus will earn a few euros to increase to 595.25 for a single person, according to the CAF scale. Family allowances will increase to 142.07 euros for a couple with two children, depending on income. The disabled adult allowance (AAH) will also be increased by the same percentage and will amount to 971.96 euros.

Tobacco price increase

The price of cigarettes will increase further. Not all packages are affected: Dunhill Bleu, Camel without filter, Gauloises blond white and Winston Classic will increase by 40 cents; the Lucky Strike Blue and Winfield red of 10 cents. The bar of 11 euros is thus reached by new packages.

Last month to apply for the “wood energy” check

Households have until May 31 to request their wood energy voucher, after the deadline has been postponed. For this you have to go to chequeboisfioul.asp-public.fr/chqfuel. Eligibility for the wood energy check can be checked on the same platform. The amount of this aid reaches between 50 and 200 euros, depending on household income.

Declare your income

It has been possible to declare your income since April 13. For some departments, we are in the last days. The inhabitants of the departments numbered between 1 and 19 have until May 25, those from 20 to 54 until June 1. Finally, the latest have until June 8. Those who complete a paper declaration and French people living abroad have until May 22.
