At King Charles’ first appearance since his cancer diagnosis, there was no sign of any health problems: he laughed and waved to the crowd.
He’s back – and looks refreshed like he hasn’t in a long time: King Charles III (75) appeared radiant and in good spirits at his first official appearance since his cancer diagnosis. When he arrived at University College Hospital in London with his wife Camilla, 76, he smiled at photographers and those waiting and waved to the crowd. After having to take a step back in recent months due to illness, he has now returned to his royal duties. Charles was named new patron of Cancer Research UK during his visit to the cancer center.

The king seemed downright happy to be able to work again after his cancer diagnosis. According to the British media, he is still undergoing treatment, but is apparently fit enough to be able to attend appointments again. Along with Camilla, he visited University College Hospital’s Macmillan Cancer Center and met patients and staff in his role as the charity’s new patron. It is said the king wants to help raise awareness of the importance of early diagnosis.
The royal couple were welcomed by University College London Hospital (UCLH) Chair Baroness Julia Neuberger and Chief Executive David Probert. At the center, Charles and Camilla met doctors and learned about the use of innovative technology, including CT scanners, used to detect cancer early.
How the Daily Mail reports, the center visited by Charles provides facilities for the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of cancer and non-cancer conditions, while supporting patients and their families. But it shouldn’t be the hospital where the king is treated.
Even if he now takes on appointments again, Charles still has to be careful to avoid infection. In the past few weeks he had only met a few people in the palace, but at the Easter service he caused astonishment by shaking the hands of those waiting. Now that the weather is improving, there can be many outdoor events – such as the royal garden party and Trooping the Color – which will minimize the risk of infection for Charles.
Prince William is also involved
Charles’ daughter-in-law Princess Kate (42), who also has cancer, continues to concentrate fully on her treatment. Her husband, heir to the throne Prince William (41), returned to work after the Easter holidays. While his father celebrated the big return, William has a busy schedule on April 30: his day began with a visit to an Earthshot Prize-nominated company in Seaham, County Durham, which produces low-carbon building materials. He is also championing men’s mental health by opening James’ Place Newcastle. This is a new treatment center that offers free help to men at risk of suicide.
