Shortly after taking off from the regional airport near Mannheim, the two pilots of a small aircraft have to make an emergency landing in an industrial area. One wing of the machine collides with the overhead line mast of a railway line.

On Wednesday afternoon, a 60-year-old pilot and another passenger started their flight from the regional airport in Mannheim. Shortly after taking off from Mannheim City Airport, the 60-year-old reported technical problems and made an emergency landing in an industrial area in Neckarau. The plane hit one of the railway’s overhead power lines. As a result, the light aircraft became tilted and crashed onto the road. Both plane occupants were taken to hospital with minor injuries. The aircraft suffered damage of around 150,000 euros.
According to the police, due to the damage to the overhead line mast, there may be disruptions on the railway line between Mannheim-Neckarau and Mannheim city center. The ultralight aircraft was recovered and confiscated. The criminal police are investigating the cause of the crash.
