Slimmed down Allgäu festival week due to missing fences and tents – Bavaria

Due to problems with the procurement of tents, fences and toilet containers, the Allgäu Festival in Kempten is to take place this year without an economic exhibition. The long-standing tent builder, who was prepared for the special requirements of the event, gave up its event operations during the corona pandemic, the Kempten city administration announced on Tuesday. No other company applied for the Europe-wide tender for the tent construction work. The reasons given were supply bottlenecks for material, staff shortages and high demand from other areas. “Fences and toilet containers are currently also often used for refugee accommodation,” said a city spokeswoman. Therefore, the festival week cannot take place as usual, but according to the city, an adapted concept for the event in August should be presented at the beginning of May and discussed in a committee of the municipal council.

According to the organizers, the Allgäu Festival in Kempten was one of the ten largest consumer fairs in Germany before the pandemic. Local companies, authorities, associations and agriculture were able to present and network there. Before the Corona-related cancellations in the past two years, more than 172,000 visitors came to the fair.
