SKW Piesteritz ramps up production again

The nitrogen works Piesteritz from Wittenberg have started to put their machines back into operation after a week-long stoppage. The start-up of the system will take about a week, said company spokesman Christopher Profitlich on Monday in an interview with MDR SACHSEN-ANHALT.

Nothing will be produced at that time. However, in the event that help comes from the federal government, the company wants to restore “supply security” as quickly as possible. “We know that our products are system-critical and don’t want to hinder anyone,” said Profitlich. But there must be “fair competitive conditions” for this.

Stop of operations due to gas allocation

Production in the company, which has 860 employees, was idle for more than three weeks. The reason for the production stop was the high gas price and the gas levy, said Profitlich in mid-August. Because of the gas surcharge due from October, the company would have had to pay 30 million euros a month. That cannot be done financially.
