Mikaela Shiffrin recently revealed that she’s lived in a constant state of disbelief since she got into the alpine skiing business around 12 years ago. For example, if someone had told her back then, after her first victory in Are almost exactly ten years ago, that she would one day win 82 races in the World Cup, six World Championship titles, two Olympic victories, plus four triumphs in the overall World Cup? Of course she would have turned it down. And basically she still can’t believe all of this, but that was always the trick, Shiffrin often said: that she could never quite believe what she was doing on a pair of skis for years. That keeps her working.
