The next dance show starts with “Skate Fever – Stars on Roller Skates”. Celebrities also demonstrated their dancing talent in these shows.

The celebs are dancing again! In the RTLzwei show “Skate Fever – Stars auf Rollerskaten” every Monday at 8:15 p.m. from October 10, 16 well-known participants compete against each other and bring the time of the roller skate disco to life. We know from other shows that prominent candidates compete in a dance competition. Only on roller skates they haven’t done that yet… These dance shows have already been shown on German television in recent years.

“Let’s Dance”

Probably the classic dance show on German free TV: In 2006, the popular show “Let’s Dance” premiered on RTL. The principle is simple and now well known. Coupled with professional dancers, the famous participants study ballroom and fashion dances. A jury – consisting of Joachim Llambi (58), Motsi Mabuse (41) and Jorge González (55) – will then rate them with a score between one and ten. The audience’s telephone voting also results in a rating for each celebrity. The couple with the lowest overall score must exit the competition at the end of each broadcast. In the final, the “Dancing Star” will be chosen.

Daniel Hartwich (44) has been moderating the show since 2010 with changing co-moderators. Since 2018, this position has been held by the “Let’s Dance” winner from 2016, Victoria Swarovski (29). The show is an adaptation of the successful British format “Strictly Come Dancing”.

“Dancing On Ice”

Dancing on unusual footwear? This is not entirely new either. Because in “Dancing On Ice” the prominent participants tried – as the name suggests – to dance on the ice. This show also comes from Great Britain and ran in Germany for the first time in 2006 on RTL. The principle is almost identical to that of “Let’s Dance” – celebrities train with professionals and are evaluated by the jury and the audience.

Wayne Carpendale (45) and Mirjam Weichselbraun (40) led through the one-time relay, from which Ruth Moschner (46) emerged as the winner. Years later, Sat.1 brought the show back to free TV. Two new seasons of the format ran there in 2019, this time moderated by Marlene Lufen (51) and Daniel Boschmann (41). Winner of the first season was Sarah Engels (29), Eric Stehfest (33) won the second season.

“Stars on Ice – by and with Katarina Witt”

Parallel to the launch of “Dancing On Ice” on RTL, ProSieben launched its own version of the British format in 2006 with “Stars on Ice – by and with Katarina Witt”. Unlike “Dancing on Ice”, the traditional ice skating system was used to give A and B grades of up to 6.0 points. Otherwise the shows were similar in their concept.

Katarina Witt (56) moderated the first season together with “Galileo” moderator Stefan Gödde (46). In the second season, last year’s winner Oliver Petszokat (44) joined the famous figure skater. The 2008 season was won by “switch” actress Susanne Pätzold (55).

“The Masked Dancer”

One of the newest dance shows on TV is The Masked Dancer. The spin-off of the high-rating “The Masked Singer” celebrated its German premiere in January 2022 on ProSieben. However, this is not a format invented in Germany either. “The Masked Dancer” first aired in the United States in 2020.

Like “The Masked Singer”, the first season of the dance show was moderated by Matthias Opdenhövel (52). The principle is based on that of the original broadcast. Celebrities compete against each other in full costume. Evidence should lead both the guessing team and the audience to the identity of the hooded star. Each week, the participant with the fewest audience votes is eliminated. Oliver Petszokat left the show as the winner in January 2022.

“Germany is dancing!”

What if, instead of individual celebrities, entire federal states dance against each other? ProSieben probably had the idea in 2016 due to the continued success of the “Bundesvision Song Contest” launched in 2005. At that time, the show “Deutschland tanzt!” broadcast, in which celebrities competed in dancing for their state.

Lena Gercke (34) and Ingmar Stadelmann (42) led the show, in which Peer Kusmagk (47) and Janni Hönscheid (32) for Schleswig-Holstein or Oliver Pocher (44) for Lower Saxony competed. Dance professionals Nikeata Thompson (42) and ex-“Let’s Dance” judge Roman Frieling (48) acted as experts on the show. However, the dancers were rated by the audience by telephone voting. Actress Kassandra Wedel (38) won the unique competition for her state of Bavaria.

“Dance Dance Dance”

RTL doesn’t just have “Let’s Dance” on offer either. The “Dance Dance Dance” format ran there from 2016 to 2017, moderated by Nazan Eckes (46) and Jan Köppen (39). The dance show is originally from the Netherlands. The task in every show: the prominent duos should dance music videos by famous artists as faithfully as possible to the original. Then every dancer was asked to do it again solo.

The athletes Philipp Boy (35) and Bene Mayr (33) won the first season. In the second season, the “DSDS” winning duo Luca Hänni (27) and Prince Damien (31) won.
