The weekend is likely to start with our feet in the water. Six departments are placed in orange alert for “floods”, reported Vigicrues, Saturday March 30, in its 8:30 a.m. bulletin. Dordogne and Corrèze had been placed on alert overnight, before being joined by Charente, Haute-Vienne, Indre-et-Loire and Vienne. This move to orange alert means that significant flooding is possible and that traffic conditions may be difficult.

In Dordogne and Corrèze, the upstream Isle, notably in Périgueux, and the upstream Vézère, between Uzerche and Ussac, are respectively affected by “significant and locally damaging overflows” Saturday morning. The inhabitants of Charente and Haute-Vienne are on alert for the same reason in the Vienne Limousin sector, while those of Vienne are exposed to the risk of flooding from the Gartempe.

Across the country, other localized overflows could occur. “Moderate to significant increases in levels on several rivers in the west and southwest of the country (…) will continue”warns Vigicrues. “Small floods and rapid rises are also expected on several rivers from the Pyrenees and the Cévennes, continues the organization. In the north of the country, the very slow spread of floods in the Oise, Canche and Somme will continue in the coming days.”
