Sinner beats Djokovic after saving three match points

To you, to me. For their third confrontation in ten days, Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner play the role of alternation. The Serbian won the most important one, in the Masters final, but it is the young Italian who leads at the end of the year. The world number 4 gave Italy an extremely valuable point against Nole’s Serbia in the Davis Cup semi-final (6-2, 2-6, 7-5), the latter however having three match points in the third set (5-4, 0-40). Unable to make it happen, he was then punished by his new rival.

After this resounding setback for the winner of 24 Grand Slam tournaments, qualification for Sunday’s final against Australia will therefore be decided during the doubles. Whatever the outcome of the confrontation, it demonstrates that Jannik Sinner has definitely turned a corner. All of this remains to be confirmed in January, at the Australian Open.
