Singing is healing: a choir for homeless people – Munich

Norbert Trischler is a pastor for homeless people – and has founded a choir for them. Like the successful model in Berlin, it doesn’t work yet, but he’s sticking with it. Because: “Singing is healing.”

Already in the second song, “Don’t you want to be a part of the kingdom”, Paul (not his real name) yawns furtively and quickly raises the sheet of music to his face. Next verse, chorus, don’t you wanna be… page up, big yawn. The third time, the man on the guitar stops playing and says: “It’s such an automatic thing for you that you have to yawn when you sing, right? Or need coffee?” A surprisingly mild, forgiving reaction for a choir director. Sometimes he has to remind you to open your mouth a little more when singing. At times, the singers themselves succumb to the powerful guitar chords with their combined vocal power. Or they simply pause for a verse.
