According to the current investigation, the suspect injured a police officer in the Gummersbach city center with a knife in the face. The emergency services then shot him several times. His condition is critical.

In addition to the suspect, an uninvolved passerby also suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh. Paramedics drove both to a hospital, police said.
