Shortage of staff: MVG discontinues tram 29 – Munich

The Munich Transport Company (MVG) continues to struggle with a shortage of skilled workers in the tram workshops. This means, among other things, that cars damaged in accidents cannot be repaired and serviced in the usual time. That’s why tram 29 in particular was often canceled before the summer holidays.

The MVG is now completely discontinuing line 29 between Munich University of Applied Sciences and Willibaldplatz until further notice. The MVG said it could be eliminated without replacement without a section no longer being served. The route is covered by lines 18, 19, 20 and 21 in parallel.

Stadtwerke München (SWM) and MVG are working on various solutions to attract new skilled workers and retain existing staff. Information about vacancies and about SWM/MVG as an employer can be found at mvg.de/karriere.

Improvements in bus transport

There are improvements in the buses, however. Line 139 runs every six to seven minutes on school days from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. between Giesing train station and Trudering train station (sometimes only to Neuperlach center). On school days, an additional trip will be offered on line 143 from Langwied Bahnhof (departure 7:22 a.m.) to Freiham Bahnhof (arrival 7:36 a.m.). There will also be minor changes in departure times, and some trips that previously ended at Riesenburgstrasse will be taken to Freiham Bahnhof extended.

On school days, line 157 has an additional trip from Pasing train station at 7.11 a.m. to Freiham train station (at 7.37 a.m.). On school days, line E162 offers an additional trip from Eichelhäherstrasse at 7:21 a.m. to the Freiham educational campus (at 7:43 a.m.) and at lunchtime there is an additional trip from the Freiham educational campus at 1:32 p.m. to Eichelhäherstrasse (at 1:52 p.m.).

Returning from the summer break is the Gasteig shuttle (line 97), which connects the Gasteig HP8 with the Implerstraße subway station and the Blumengrossmarkt car park, as well as Sunday service on the X30 express bus between Harras and Ostbahnhof for better connections to the HP8.
