An accident on the set of “Rust” commemorates the death of Brandon Lee. His sister has now commented on the incident.
There was a terrible accident on the set of the western “Rust”. 42-year-old cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally injured after actor and producer Alec Baldwin, 63, fired a prop gun. Director Joel Souza (48) was also injured in the incident, which commemorates the death of actor Brandon Lee (1965-1993). Lee’s sister Shannon (52) commented on this on Twitter.
On an account on which Lee remembers her deceased brother, the actress and daughter of the martial arts legend Bruce Lee (1940-1973) wrote: “At heart we are with the family of Halyna Hutchins, Joel Souza and everyone who who were involved in the Rust incident. No one should ever be killed by a gun on a movie set. “
Brandon Lee died in March 1993 while filming The Crow. Cartridges were used for production that were incorrectly rendered harmless. A fragment of a bullet got caught unnoticed in the barrel of the weapon. When the actor Michael Massee (1952-2016) later shot Lee with blank cartridges while filming, the pressure released caused the fragment to be thrown in the direction of Lee. Lee was hit and died in a hospital a few hours later.
What happened with “Rust”?
Police in Santa Fe County, New Mexico, United States, have confirmed a fatal incident occurred on the set of the film. In a statement, which, among other things, was published by the industry portal “Deadline”, it is confirmed that Baldwin fired a prop gun. Hutchins was therefore flown by helicopter to the University of New Mexico hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Director Souza was taken by ambulance to the Christ St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe, where he was treated for injuries sustained. So far, no charges have been made after the incident and the matter is under investigation. It is unclear how exactly the camerawoman died. The shooting was stopped for the time being.
