Sex, coke, detergent: Paying with strange means of payment

At the supermarket checkout or in the restaurant the question is: “Bar or with a card?” In other corners of the world you could still offer dolphin teeth, bottle caps or sex – because that’s exactly what you can pay for in some regions of the world.

The credit platform Vexcash has put together strange payment methods. For example, learner drivers in the Netherlands can actually pay with sex if they are over 18 years old and the driving instructor offers this type of payment. This exchange transaction does not violate applicable law. In Colombia, cocaine is more common than the local currency, the peso, in some regions of the country.

Originally, the alternative payment options are an ancient predecessor of money. Early cultures traded goods and services for items that were of value to them. In China these were valuable blades, on a group of islands in the South Pacific the teeth of dolphins are accepted as a means of payment.
